Our Paver Sealing Process

At Paver Sealing Pinellas, we are committed to utilizing the finest quality sealers available from Trident Protects. Furthermore, We use Trident's 1-2-3 cleaning method on all of our paver sealing projects (more info below.) We uphold our reputation by selecting only the top-tier paver sealing and cleaning products to ensure your project is done right the first time.

Cleaning Process

Our Cleaning Process begins with the use of a commercial grade surface cleaner equipped with a rotating bar and 2 spray tips. We operate our machines at the optimal strength of 3500-4000 PSI, this ensures a thorough cleaning of the pavers and paver joints, without causing any damage. Additionally, we use Tridents 1-2-3 cleaning method that is designed to eliminate efflorescence, remove tough stains, and provide the perfect conditions for sealer adhesion. Tridents products and cleaning method were created to provide the ultimate paver cleaning in preparation for sealing.

*** At Paver Sealing Pinellas we utilize a method called "Cross Washing." Meaning we will wash your pavers vertically and horizontally during the 1-2-3 cleaning process. This makes certain your pavers are washed thoroughly and no dirt or stains are left behind. ***

Step 1: Efflorescence, Salt and Mineral Removal:

The first step in our cleaning process begins with the treatment and removal of Efflorescence, Salt and other mineral deposits. Efflorescence is a white, yellow, or brown crystalline deposit of salts that can form on the surface of porous materials like concrete (or Pavers). Tridents "White Water" is designed to attack and remove these deposits, creating the optimal conditions for sealer adhesion while adding aesthetic value.

Step 2: Organic & Inorganic Stain Removal:

In the second step of our cleaning process, we focus on eliminating unwanted organic and inorganic stains.

  •  For substances such as moss, mold, mildew, as well as berry and leaf stains, we use Trident's "Point Break." This solution is formulated to effectively and efficiently clean common non-greasy stains like those from food and wine, while also being tough on rust.

  •  For oil and grease substances, such as motor oil and food-based oil stains, we use Tridents "Safe Harbor." This solution is formulated to effectively clean petroleum and greasy food-based stains.

Step 3: Final/ Robust Surface Cleaner:

The third and final step in our cleaning process is a robust surface clean using Tridents "Wipe out." We use Wipe Out as our final cleaning solution as it is designed to eliminate deep-set dirt, grime, tire scuffing and environmental soiling. Wipe out helps neutralize the PH levels of the pavers for optimal sealer adherence.

Re-sanding The Paver Joints

Re-sanding the paver joints plays a very crucial role in the restoration process, as the sand provides the stability of your entire paver system. At Paver Sealing Pinellas, we are dedicated to using Tridents SEK joint sand for all of our sealing projects.

For our sanding process, we use a method of sanding called "wet sanding." This allows the sand to settle to the lowest point of the pavers and fill all joints properly. We fill the joints to approximately 1/8" from the pavers chamfer (edge), and use a blower to rid of any excess sand before applying sealer.

Applying The Sealer

At Paver Sealing Pinellas we are dedicated to using Tridents Hurricane CAT 5 sealer. This is a 2-part urethane sealer designed to lock in joint sand for stabilization and provide deep color enhancement.

Some companies may thin out their sealers beyond recommendations to offer a lower price. At Paver Sealing Pinellas we DO NOT thin out our sealers, as it shortens the life of the sealing and may cause you to maintain your pavers more often.

First Coat: The "Flood Coat"

Our sealing process begins with the application of a "flood coat," during which sealer is applied generously to soak the paver joints and surface. This thorough application ensures that the sealer penetrates into the sand and pavers, enhancing the pavers true colors and providing long-lasting protection against environmental elements. By flooding the paver joints, we lock in the sand, proactively preventing potential issues with the paver system.

Second Coat:

The second and third coats or "top coats" are applied to help build the essential protective barrier for your pavers and to enhance sealer distribution in the paver joints. The second coat provides an added layer of protection and helps create a semi-gloss look to your pavers.

Once the sealer is fully cured, the sand will be fully locked into the paver joints, the colors enhanced, as well as ensure easy maintenance and long-lasting protection against Florida's harsh elements.

Finishing The job

After the sealer is applied, we use backpack blowers and foam rollers to help disperse excess sealer and effectively re-coat the paver system. We also make sure to wipe down pool cages, sliding doors, outdoor kitchens, track drains, etc. For driveways, we make sure that all dirt and debris are rinsed from sidewalks and curb areas. Upon final walkthrough, we make sure all areas of the paver system has been effectively and properly sealed, everything is cleaned up and the customer is satisfied.

Trident Protects recommends 24-36 hours for the sealer to fully cure, depending on weather and site conditions.

They also recommend that the area can be open to foot traffic in 24 hours and vehicle traffic in 48 hours, depending on weather and site conditions.
